The Exodus embraced the entire Jewish people—men, women, and children—and its purpose was that all should serve G-d and receive the Torah. The Pesach offering likewise belongs to every member of the household, and all four sons, despite their differences, must take part in the Seder; the future Redemption, too, will include every Jew. Preparation for it requires each person and family to free themselves from the idolatries of the present day and observe the Torah in its entirety, without substituting good feeling, sermons, or selected commandments for complete observance.

Every thought, word, and deed leaves an imprint and influences the future, yet Teshuvah has the power to repair even the past and to transform willful sins into merits. At the close of the Hakhel year, a person must gather all his faculties and deeds into the inner Sanctuary, under G-d's kingship, and change, repair, and revitalize whatever requires correction. There is therefore no room for despair over the past; Teshuvah undertaken with joy and confidence brings success in this work.
