Pesach is especially connected with education, and its influence must extend throughout the year. Yet precisely during the festival, when its effect upon children could be strongest, they leave their schools and are exposed to an environment that is not permeated with Judaism. Children should therefore be gathered before Yom Tov and during Chol Hamoed to learn the festival's laws and practical message, while parents must use the vacation to increase their own guidance and education.

An honest spiritual accounting must neither exaggerate one's virtues nor magnify one's failings to the point of sadness and despair. Even when the balance reveals serious deficiencies, there is no cause for hopelessness: every good deed, stemming from the eternal Divine soul, is everlasting, whereas evil, stemming from the transient animal soul, can be erased through repentance. Knowing that every good act endures and improves the world gives a person the strength to repent and make the coming year one of great accomplishment.
